Hitchhiker Features
Single-Shot Open-Bolt Operation: The Hitchhiker’s open-bolt design ensures a quick reload cycle, reducing the time between shots. Blowback force re-cocks the bolt, so you only need to insert another cartridge to fire again.
Affordable Build: Designed with a focus on cost-efficiency, this project utilizes both imperial and metric hardware. The mix of components, lovingly referred to as “metrinch,” adds to the fun and versatility of the build.
Customizable Options: Available in three configurations for different barrel lengths—10-inch (pistol), 16-inch (rifle), and the absurd 27-inch “HTRD27” for advanced “iguana warfare” scenarios. Additional options include a special cartridge reserve and a folding grip module.
Operation: Once assembled, the Hitchhiker operates via simple blowback action:
- Cock the bolt back.
- Insert a round into the chamber.
- Pull the trigger to release the bolt and fire. After firing, the blowback action will re-cock the bolt for the next shot. The Hitchhiker is compatible with .22 shorts and long rifles, offering a fun and practical option for low-cost shooting adventures.
