Printable frame for the Ruger P89

Overview

The Recession Ruger R2 is a reworked version of the original Recession Ruger, designed around the Ruger P89 and fed by Glock magazines. This project isn’t a remix but an entirely new model with virtually every dimension altered. Its name reflects the affordability of Ruger P89 parts, which can be sourced as low as $20 to $40.

This build is focused on being “HELLA strong” and includes a printable threaded rod stock and matching extended magazine. It features a redesigned magazine release and ejector assembly that take cues from AR-15 ergonomics.

Features of the Recession Ruger R2

The Recession Ruger R2 brings together the simplicity of Glock magazine compatibility and the iconic Ruger P89 in a pistol-caliber carbine (PCC) format. This build is meant to be both accessible and durable, with affordable parts and a solid construction.

The magazine release has been reimagined with a lever style, similar to the RTT-9, making it more modular and adaptable. You can choose from a right-side release paddle or left-side button configuration for easier mag swaps. Additionally, a printable stock or brace pad is available, with variations in stock length based on personal preference.

This build doesnโ€™t rely on a traditional slide release but instead uses an M5 SHCS for better retention. While you sacrifice the last-round bolt hold open (LRBHO), the model is more robust and secure. Also, it utilizes an AR-15 style fire control group, making sourcing parts straightforward for those familiar with the AR platform.

One of the standout features is its modular design, where the frame has been optimized for future customization. This includes a “BLOCK” version of the frame to allow further development by other builders.
