What is FMDA dd19.2 3D Printed Glock Frame?

The FMDA dd19 took the internet by storm as one of the best 3D handguns for reliability and ease of DIY production.

As usual, 3D gun builder Ivan the Troll, came out with the dd19.2 which increased the durability, available styles, and as always top-notch documentation.

FMDA dd19.2 3D Printed Glock Frame History

This 3D-printable frame was designed by Ivan The Troll.

Even if you haven’t heard of Ivan The Troll before, which is most unlikely, you have probably run into his amazing works, such as the projects UBar2 (AR15 Lower), Colt 3011, Amigo Grande, FMDA dd26.2, and FMDA dd17.2.

So, this popular DIY gun designer started to work on a new version of the frame around two years ago. The dd19.2 frame is considered an improved, updated version of the original FMDA “dd19” Glock frame(check out the DD20 too).

Ivan The Troll spent a lot of time on tests and adaptation. He considered the feedback from the community on the first-generation frames and the biggest problems that needed to be fixed.

His mission was to design a version of the Glock 19 that was much more robust than v1.

The STL file for 3D printing the dd19.2 was uploaded online in January 2021, along with a full step-by-step guide on how to assemble the parts.

The guide also contains various recommendations on where to find the necessary parts, tools needed, and videos.

FMDA dd19.2 3D Printed Glock Frame Tech Specs

For starters, it’s very important to note that this 3D-printable frame is compatible with the standard compact Glock 19 along with the Glock 22 upper.

The tech specs of the dd19.2 are a blend of the classic compact Glock 19 and the newer P80 compact grip design.

3D FMDA dd19.2 Print Settings

The following suggested print settings are recommended based on using PLA+ filament by the gun developer Ivan the Troll.

Nozzle: 0.4mm
Layer Height: 0.15mm
Temp: 230/60C
Infill: 100% (You can use 99% infill on Cura to speed up the print time)
Supports: On/full (tree supports are ok) – use a close support interface gap. Your interface gap should not be larger than 0.15mm unless you know what you are doing with your setup.
Cooling fan: 20% normal, 50% on bridges. Off for the first 10 layers. Keep the fan low to prevent warp.
Bed Adhesion: gluestick or hairspray or both

Post-processing: If you print your frame upright, you can clean up the rough bottom-facing areas of your print with a soldering iron – after removing supports, take your soldering iron and melt the rough patches on the frame together to make them smooth.

All other settings can/should be left as default or whatever you know works best with your printing setup.
